For those of you that use us to manage your websites then you are perfectly safe as we use non standard usernames and strong passwords on all sites that we setup. If you administer your own website then we recommend that double check all of your user accounts.
The other side of the coin is that if you are running a computer that isn’t fully patched up-to-date, or is even on an obsolete operating system then your computer may well be a part of the Botnet doing the attacking. You need to make sure that all of the products that you use are fully security patched and not just Microsoft applications or OSX updates for Mac users. The Microsoft Windows and apps are generally the easiest to deal with as they are all updated from a single place e.g.. Windows update. You also need to individually patch all of your other applications, from Java to Flash to Quicktime to iTunes and everything else that you use. This is simply good practice and is something that any internet connected business needs to manage on a regular basis.
Uptodate Antivirus and Antimalware applications will help to protect you, but they are only one part of your defence against the people that wish your systems harm, or may wish to use them for nefarious purposes.
If in doubt then please do get in touch and we will help you to make sure that your business is protected.
